Question:

Windshield wipers wont return to original position when I turn them off. Any solution?

They‘re not frozen, they work fine otheriwise, but when I turn them off, they do their thing, then stop like in the middle of the window, and stay there. Anything I can check to see what the issue is before going to a shop?

Answer:

It sounds like there is a problem with the switching mechanism. AFter you turn them off, the circuit should be staying on until the wipers return to position, but for some reason that part of the switching mechaism is malfunctioning. You will probably need a new switch mechanism. You might be able to buy this and replace this yourself depending on where it is located and how creative you are in figuring out mechanical things. Of course the last time I changed a wiper switch was on a 1974 Volvo and everything now is probably run off of a master computer chip. Check out a maintenance manual on your car to find out if there is a switch box you can replace and find out how much the part costs.
ive had this before. you can remove the wiper arms and place thm back on with the wipers touching the very bottom of the windshield.this should solve the problem. if not then the wiper motor may be faulty or the relay switch. try to adjust them first as a described.
Wiper motors have a mechanism built in (a cam usually) that returns the wipers to the off, or housed position. That may not be the problem, and it could be that the nut holding the linkage to the shaft has backed off, letting the linkage flop around a bit. Last possibility would be the wiper switch itself. Did you just change wiper arms? if you didn't align them correctly, they won't get all the way to the housed position.
