My 2001 Chevy Impala windshield wipers park in the upright position. The wipers function normally, but when they normally go from the Intermittent low position to the park position they hesitate, and then they go up to the and stop in the upright position.I tried taking the fuse out, forcing them down (even when they are off they automatically reset back up to straight up and down, versus lying flat.I see plenty of Chevy/GM vehicles with this issue, is it just a crappy motor/linkage/tranny?This all happened when the wipers failed to go down into the normal lower lying flate park position when they were blocked by a little bit of snow. It‘s as if they don‘t remember where to park, because they go right to the up and down position to parkAnyone have a quick fix, or is this really just another crappy part made by General Motors?thanks in advance for your help!
Yeapper you will desire to eliminate the motor and realign the gears. with a bit of luck that's not stripped and that's merely an alignment. that's like a series of tooth on 2 wheels and that i think with the load of the snow one wheel grew to become and the different did not
I own a shop, and have seen this many times. The main reason for this is; when you come home, and stop the engine, you don't turn the wipers off. Come out the next morning, and when you turn the switch on, they are iced to the windshield. As soon as the ignition switch is activated, the wipers try to move and can't. This damages the wiper motor because they can't move, and the wipers just keep trying to work. This is due in part by leaving the intermittent part of the wipers on. No one thinks to make sure the wipers are completely in the off position when they shut it down for the night. All vehicles will do this if the wipers are left on. They are designed to move water, not several inches of snow, and/or being stuck to the windshield by ice. This is a more common event than one might think. It happens to all brands of vehicles, not just the crappy GM products. Just go to a junk yard and pick up a used motor, slap it on there and your set to go. Glad to help you, Good Luck!!!
the park tab on the wiper trans is most likey bent its not that its a crappy GM part its that ppl dont clean the snow and ice from the area were the wipers park or they are frozen to the windshield when they're turned on the wipers can't move and the park tab is the weakest link you can some times bend them back in place but most of the time the wiper trans needs to be replaced
