I am the only person that ever adds fluids to my truck. A few months ago I noticed my brake reservoir was full to the top with a neon green fluid, looked like coolant! I told some friends about it and they all thought I was crazy, so I just left it. It really started bothering me a few days ago because I know I did not do this nor did any friend of mine as I do not allow people to mess with my truck. Whom ever did this to my truck obviously had harm in mind, now I have to figure out was it to hurt my truck? Or me? Is it too late to flush my system? What exactly would happen to my brake system over time if it does have coolant in it? It has been around 3 months now and the fluid looks dark if you look through the plastic, ifyou take some out and put it in a clear bottle it looks like a forest green. Can someone help me with this? Thank you!
My break fluid goes in clear yellow, and comes out green and cloudy when it's been in a while. Try just bleeding the system right through, it's probably just moisture. How could anyone else get to your resevoir ? If you have the only key, how did they get the bonnet (hood) open ?
Nancy , YES IT CAN DESTROY YOUR BRAKE SYSTEM, especially if you have the ABS system . (Antilock brakes) See moisture is the #1 reason for failure and since water and brake fliud mix so well( antifreeze has water in it) this can result in a very costly repair. Go to Midas, or call around to differant shops that do brake work and ask how much to have your brake system flushed and refilledIMMEDIATELY IF NOT SOONER!!!! Cost is around $50-$60. To replace the Abs system is around $2000 (sensors brain, etc, etc.) In fact everyone should have their brake system flushed every 50,000-60,000 mi or every couple / three yrs .
