Question:

is anthrax a black metal band?

it's juz that i read somewhere that it's the seed 2 black metal, n that death metal = black metal. n that black metal could bend ur faith or something like that. really, anyone offended by this q, i'm so sorry, but i juz need an answer that could, well.. satisfy my curiosity.after all, u ppl have better judgement on this than i am.

Answer:

Deathcore (early Job for a Cowboy, the Acacia Strain, Emmure, more recent Cryptopsy, Suicide Silence, Whitechapel, etc.) is number one, without question. There was a time when I would have said Nu-metal, but it's largely dissipated as a major force. A close second is (mainstream) Metalcore (Killswitch Engage, Trivium, Atreyu, Bullet for my Valentine, As I Lay Dying, etc.). I qualify with mainstream because some acts, most of them verging on Mathcore, such as Converge (who have admittedly achieved a decent amount of mainstream success) and Botch are quite good. Nu-metal will show with a near tie. Honorable mention goes to Post-metal. I have nothing against bands labelled as Post-metal (Pelican, Isis, Neurosis, Russian Circles, etc.), and, in fact, many of them are good. My problem is that it should not, by any reasonable argument, exist as a classification. Not only do the bands grouped under it have barely enough in common to group them together, they all fit neatly enough under another, already existing, genre.
Nu metal sucks. I like black metal but not death metal. I think it's the atmospheres I like. Also all progressive metal sounds like Keeper of the 7 keys to me.
Definatly NU Metal
Power metal and thrash metal and just a question for the one who brought up post-metal: excluding Russian Circles, who are really just heavy post-rock, would you really say that Isis, Pelican, and Neurosis have little in common? I've heard far too many people call Isis a blatant Neurosis ripoff, and Pelican an blatant Isis ripoff to buy into that.
My least favorite Metal sub genres are Death Metal, Screamo, Glam Metal, and Today's Metal like A7X and Bullet for my Valentine I hate those bands I hate any Metal that has screaming. I like my Metal Old School like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Dio, and Iron Maiden thats the only Metal I like and Grunge Metal like Alice in Chains and Soundgarden some of their music is heavy.
