Question:

Swapping out Chevy Transmissions?

I was wondering if the automatic transmission of a 97 chevy tahoe would fit and operate on 93 chevy c1500/silverado (automatic too)

Answer:

Probably not. 1996 was the transition year from OBD-II to OBD-III (On Board Diagnostics). OBD-III has much tighter control over the transmission and overall powertrain. You can probably get a black box to make it work, but a lot of the reatures of the 1993 trans (700R4) won't work on the 1997 trans (4L60E -though 1992 and 1993 were transitional years between the 700R4 and 4L60E). Pretty much any combination can be made to work, but the cost of control systems and so on may make finding a transmission from the correct year (or generation) more cost-effective. You can put an LS7 small-block 427 in the truck, but it would probably be a challenge.
only if the tahoe is a two wheel drive otherwise the tailshafts are different, and cant just be switched, also keep in mind finall drives and gears in trans are from 4x4 -----2x4
