What role did the printing press play in spreading the ideas of the Protestant Reformation?
The printing press played a huge role in the dissemination of al kinds of information - not just he Protestant reformation, but everything. Prior to the printing press, manuscripts had to be copied by hand. It was a slow, tedious job and the manuscripts were often full of errors. With the printing press, multiple copies could be made in a fraction of the time, at a fraction of the cost, and were true to the original. That means that information pertinent to the Protestant Reformation could be widely distributed at a reasonable cost.
The Printing Press was invented by Johannes Guetenberg and was first used in England by William Caxton. It started the english transition from middle english to modern english It regulated english spelling by allowing more people (including those with less money) to purchase novels and other reading materials. this created a huge growth in the english language and pushed it closer to modern day english! Literature could be mass-produced and promoted greater literacy with the common man. Before that they just had to rely on Catholic priests reading from their latin scrolls and take their interpretations as the end-all truth, while any form of dissent was quickly burned by the church. However, with the printing press, ideas such as ones by Martin Luther could be spread throughout Europe and no longer contained.
It started with martin luther 95 thesis at this point no one knows the exact details but arrived at a printing press in Germany and quickly spread through the entirety of Europe without the printing press the thesis would have been mainly lost due to the roman churches hold on public information probably burning the thesis but because of the printing press more copies obviously were made than by hand and aloud it to survive the church rule getting into the hands of every European citizen at that time. This had effect on the entirety of the roman church changing there control over people forever
