Question:

Windshield Wipers - Can I go one size up?

I have a 2000 Ford Expedition, the factory recommended wiper size is 20. When I use them, to me it just doesn‘t cover as much as I would like of the window. I was wondering (before I go out and buy) would I have any problems if I go up just one size to 21

Answer:

I did this as an accident (computer at parts place was obviously wrong) but I had to take a cutter to the hardened spring steel of these super expensive wipers I bought that were on sale. I threw the receipt and put them on about a year after I bought them because the sale was so good. They work and cover almost ALL of the windshield now, but as some said they might rub (as mine did) without cutting the end off.
My own personal exp is that going one size up the wiper hits the edge of the windshield casing on the passenger side Go to Auto zone and try it out! tell them you don't know how to install wiper blades they will come out and TRY To install If you don't like it just say Never mind
they might collide at some point in their wipe cycle so check, most wipers come close during the wipe sometimes because the drivers one moves slower and has a shorter wipe in some cars or they just pass close if they are mirror image opposite wipers. and need to add that when they collide it is messing and will ruin your new wipers and possibly more, it happened to me so check you've got at least a spare inch at their closest
