Question:

emission system warning light?

i have an 07 ford focus, and today on the way to school, i noticed the light illuminated, and i pulled off the road to call my dad since he's car guy. but what does it mean?and how dangerous is it?it was flickering, from dim light to bright orange light, and sometimes flickered off.what should i do?

Answer:

Electrical tape works well to hide that light so it won't bother you anymore.
take it to advance auto parts and have them put the scanner on it to see what kind of codes its throwing out
Their is something going on with the sender for the gage to that kind of a dance Did you By the car new if how Meany miles are you still under warranty
Like others have said, go get the codes read and go from there. FYI on Fords at least, if the light comes on solid, it's not a big deal. But, if it flashes (supposedly) it shouldn't be driven very far.
it is likely an O2 sensor (Oxygen sensor), in which case wont do much.. you will get less gas mileage (not much less). The only thing would be when you go to get it inspected, you would have to fix it to make it pass inspection. Emissions systems don't do much to affect the performance, the cumputer will just over correct the fuel air mixture with more fuel (thus wasting more gas). So, in short, don't worry too much about it. Edit: it is possible that bad gas would cause the sensors to read out of range, but in that case you would also notice a difference in performance. I would do what Steve O said, go to an auto parts store and they can put the scanner on it to read the codes, most do that for free.
