Question:

Is it possible to gravity bleed a braking system, with speed bleeders installed on the calipers ?

The vehicle is a 2001 Nissan Sentra SE. The speed bleeders are Dorman 12706.It appears, the check valve spring is exerting a greater force than the head of the brake fluid.I added the check valves, because I‘m doing this task without an assistant. However, the check valves do not allow me to engage in my usual bleeding routine as follows:I have the assistant pump the brakes several times, holding the brake pedal down on the last pump. While the assistant continues to hold down the brake pedal, I momentarily crack the bleeder valve, allowing a blast of air and fluid to escape.I cannot duplicate this procedure by myself. It is true, I can leave the bleeder open and pump the brakes without fear of air entering the bleeder. However, I cannot benefit from the pressure buildup of multiple pumps. Apparently this additional pressure is necessary to bleed this system. It is why, I am now trying gravity bleeding.Any help, would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:

You're going about this all wrong. Just get a pressure bleeder (the basic Motive Products unit is only about $60). True one-person operation without all the rigamarole you are going through.
Not sure with those valves, but when I gravity bleed, I'll stick a hose on the nipple, crack it open and put the other end in a clear bottle with clean fluid in it. Then just keep the reservoir full!
