The brake line that connects the actual brake to the lever up near the handlebars is completely full of air. When I added brake fluid to the resovoir at the top and pulled lever multiple times, it would not pull the brake fluid through, meaning it just sat in the resevoir. How do I get brake fluid to go through the resovoir and down the brake line again, could there be something stuck in the mechanism that moves when the brake lever is pulled in?
open the bleeder screw on the brake caliper then press and hold down the lever, then tighten the bleeder screw and release the lever. this is normal brake bleeding practice, just make sure that the fluid level stays correct after each cycle, the cycle of bleeding can take several times, it will take awhile and helps of you have an extra set of hands.
There is a lot of possible problems that could cause you to leak brake fluid some of them is a leaking caliper or brake line. Generally when a caliper leaks(and sometimes a line) u dont have to replaced the pads because fluid got on them but I usually clean them off with some brake cleaner and see if there ok from there; sometimes they are to saturated to save. the best way you can tell if it is a caliper or line is to look if you see fluid lines on one of the wheels of take a look behind them to see the line and the inside of the wheel. There is also some other possible problems that could cause the pedal to feel spongy or low to the floor, such as a bad master cyclender or air in the system, or bad brake booster. Most of brake fluid leaks from older vehicals come from calipers or line, while a bad master cyclender would cause a low or spongy pedal.
open the bleed valve on the disc brake, let the fluid gravity bleed, maybe pump it a little to start. tap the resovoir with a screw driver handle (tap) and the air will come out the resovoir,, keep fluid in resovior filled
