Question:

Brake system on a 1985 Dodge 1/2 ton pick up?

I have a 1985 Dodge 1/2 ton pick up. My brake pedal went to floor and wont pump back up. I have checked all lines and connections and have no leaks. Does this sound like a master cylinder

Answer:

The Surfer Blood dude is right on the money. I could not suggest it better. Like him I also change down as I am slowing for exactly the reason he said, the traffic lights change to green, you are already in the correct gear so just power away. In fact I would suggest not changing down as possibly dangerous. In the traffic light going green scenario, a following vehicle, anticipating you will move forward quickly could drive into the back of you if he expected you would be away quick yet instead your are stranded going no where as you are trying to get the right gear.
You're asking if you need to shift down through the gears as you reach the speed associated with that gear? Nah, you can just hold in the clutch and shift down to first once you're already stopped at the light. The drawback to that is that when the light changes to green when you're going 3 mph, you can't just let out the clutch and twist on the gas, because you'll be chugging pretty badly if you do that. -- you would have to clunk down through the gears really quick and get in first, then let out the clutch and accelerate away. So it's a little better practice to work down through the gears as you slow down, but in the big scheme of things, it's not super important.
Sounds like the master cylinder to me.
Sounds like you have an internal leak in the master cylinder. You can either, buy a re-build kit, and hone out the bore, or replace the cylinder.
check the reservoir on the master cylinder and if its full and you have no brake pedal on it ,it is the master cylinder that has went out on it,that's the only thing it can be if it hasn't lost any fluid at all on it,good luck.
