Question:

How long till data slows on enternet cable?

I heard that there is a certain amount of feets where the rnternet cable slows down and then your need to put an switch to extend it more? right?

Answer:

Under perfect conditions an ethernet cable is rated for 100 meters. I have never had one go that far because of noise. The longest with out any problems is really on 30 meters or about 100 feet. Standard cat5e will give good results at this distance. Beyond that may need to go to shielded wiring.
I haven't heard of that yet, but then again, I guess that IS why they have so many little green cable boxes around in neighborhoods. I DO know that it's true for satellite though and the cable can't be longer than 150 feet in order to receive good signal from the dish to the house.
